Frequently Asked Questions
Kids Martial Arts
Q: “Will martial arts, karate, tae kwon do teach my child to be hostile and aggressive?”
Absolutely not. Children learn a lot about what it means to be respectful and polite here. As a result, kids who weren't violent in the first place become even more respectful and kind. Kids with behavior problems often become very respectful an calm.
Q: “Does my child face a risk for injury with martial arts, karate, tae kwon do?”
Our program is extremely safe. We have measures upon measures in place to insure that your child will stay safe, and have a great time. From stretching to warmups to very close supervision - we've got your child covered. Injuries do happen sometimes - but they're quite rare.
Q: “Can my child still participate in martial arts, karate, tae kwon do if he/she is not athletic?”
Yes! In fact, martial arts is kind of a beacon of light for kids who just don't fit into team sports. Kids who never could throw a ball well or run fast find that martial arts is accessible to them. It's something they excel at, and as a result, their confidence soars.
Q: “What ages are the other kids in the martial arts, karate, tae kwon do class?”
We have classes for kids as young as 3, and as old as teenagers. Martial arts is the kind of thing that grows with you. So as kids get older, they learn new techniques, perfect old ones, and advance. When they're younger, it's more about fun and games, with learning thrown in too.
Q: “Do boys AND girls take martial arts, karate, tae kwon do?”
Yes! We have a good mix of both girls and boys in our kids martial arts classes! Some people think that the boys are much "stronger and tougher," but in reality this is not true. In fact, often girls are the stronger ones!

Q: “What type of classes do you offer? (Group or private?) ”
Both! Most members opt for group classes, but feel free to ask any of our instructors for more info on private sessions.
Q: “How many people will be in my class?”
You can probably expect about 15-30 people in your class. It's a really great group full of positive people excited about losing weight. You'll fit right in.
Q: “Will you help me with my nutritional habits?”
Absolutely. Nutrition is KEY to weight loss, and we'll pass along the powerful knowledge we've put together over the years. (By the way, our nutrition program is all about naturally improving your diet - NOT forcing foods on you that you don't like or starving yourself).
Q: “How many classes per week should I attend?”
We recommend at least 2-3 for best results, but we encourage you to listen to your body and attend how ever much is right for you.

Mixed Martial Arts
Q: “Is MMA training appropriate for people of all fitness levels?”
Our Draper MMA training program is completely accessible to anyone and everyone. MMA has a rep for being “super hardcore”. In reality, you can go whatever pace you need to in our program. As your fitness level rises, you can increase your intensity.
Q: “Is there a good chance that I'll get injured?”
No way! Injuries are very few and far between with our program. That's because no one is trying to hurt anyone else here. We all just want to get in awesome shape, have fun, and learn some killer MMA techniques.
Q: “What kind of atmosphere do these classes have?”
It's like a family here. Or a team. Everyone is extremely supportive and encouraging. Members help each other learn moves and get them down. We all push each other to go harder and longer than we could on our own. And we laugh and smile a lot together too. Come to one class and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.
Q: “What are the ages of the other students?”
Students range from 20s to late 40s. However we've had younger, and we've had older. Since you can go at your own pace with this training, there's really no age limit. Well, babies might have a bit of trouble ;-)
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Q: “What kind of physical shape does Brazilian Jiu Jitsu require?”
You can start BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) no matter what kind of shape you're currently in. Because it's a great workout, you'll get in awesome shape in no time.
Q: “Can I still take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes if I have a medical condition / past serious injury?”
Most people with medical conditions and past injuries can take BJJ without a hitch. However, we recommend speaking to your doctor first. He / she will know best. We're also glad to work around your condition / injury in accordance with your doctor's advice. Just let us know what your doctor says!
Q: “BJJ seems intense. Do people get injured a lot?”
BJJ is intense! That's why we love it. But injuries are VERY rare. We've gone the extra mile to create a program that will actually help you prevent injuries rather than bring them on.
Q: “Can women take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?”
Absolutely. And even though it's a close-contact sport, there's never any awkwardness or uncomfortableness between genders. Everyone is just focused on having a great training experience. And because you'll be paired up with people of your skill level and size, gender doesn't even make a difference.
Q: “What are the instructors like? Fun? Serious? Etc.?”
In a nutshell: they're experts, extremely supportive, a lot of fun, and highly focused. They're there when you need an extra push to do your best, and there when you need a good laugh. These classes are really a great time.
